Those who refresh others, will themselves become refreshed.
This law is the end of the first 10. I particularly tried to choose them in somewhat of an order, but it didn’t seem to work out that way. This principle stands true in all aspects, and all times. This idea was taken out of the bible, from Proverbs 11:25.
My interpretation is that those who will be a shoulder to cry on, someone to talk to, someone to hold others up when they need it, will have the same effects as the other person. I don’t mean this exactly, but that those who hold others feel good about themselves. It’s a weird feeling, something I cannot fully explain.
The refreshment of giving to someone else is a greater gift in itself. As Paul in the bible once said, it is more blessed to give than receive.
You probably think I’m just saying this to say this. I didn’t believe it at first until I experienced it.
I was working out in the morning, hitting a great gym sesh. I finished a little extra early so I didn’t know what to kill the time with. I remembered the night before, I was talking with my mom about our favorite desserts. Mine, was just a simple cookie, nothing too special. Publix has these good sugar &chocolate chip cookie combos that I get often. Her favorite was a donut; not just any donut, but these special ones found at this one bakery across town. I was thinking hey we should get some as a joke, and she thought I was for real. I told her I was only joking, and she then got it. We went to bed shortly after that and I didn’t think much of it.
I decided to drive out of my way and be a good son for once, getting donuts and surprising mom with them. She always has something good for me when I least expect it. So I go out and get them, and bring them home. The look on her face when I showed her the box and told her was worth anything I have. Materially, I have nothing even comparable to that feeling I got when I surprised her with this little thing. It’s what I imagine ecstasy to be like. Unrelenting happiness.
That’s why I believe that those who refresh others will be refreshed, that giving is better than receiving, and that doing the small things can make all the difference.
